It was great to see Australian scientist Michelle Simmons named Australian of the Year, with soccer sensation Sam Kerr the Young Australian of the Year.
Australia Day honours were also bestowed on many well known Australians, as well as those doing amazing work in our communities. Special mention to Woo Tube creator, and Local Hero, Eddie Woo, who is inspiring our next generation to enjoy learning.
Australia Day weekend traditionally marks the beginning of the political year, with Members and Senators attending multiple local council citizenship ceremonies and community barbecues in their electorates.
There was a lot of debate leading into Australia Day about whether the date should change, or we should change our flag, for the most part the activities across the country were able to play out without significant incident.
