On Thursday, the Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, addressed Parliament to hand down the 2019 Closing the Gap report.

The Prime Minister described as ‘unforgivable’, he listed a series of issues where Australia is failing to close the gap and had shown minimal progress to reducing Indigenous disadvantage.

In what can only be described as an honest and raw assessment, the Prime Minister said “While I am not going to pretend today that this situation does not remain in an unforgivable state, I am going to say that we can never rest as a nation until we change this for all time.”

The Opposition Leader, the Hon Bill Shorten MP, also address the Parliament and provide a frank but honest assessment that “I feel that there is good news, but not enough good news. I feel that there is hope, but not enough hope…But the trust is that at this 11th Closing the Gap exchange, I’m frustrated. I suspect many members of the House feel that frustration too.
