This week the Treasurer, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, and the Shadow Treasurer, the Hon Chris Bowen MP, continued to promote the respective benefits of both major parties’ economic plans for the country.

The Treasurer continued to promote the Government’s reform agenda for business and personal income tax cuts and cast doubt over Labor’s economic plans.

The Treasurer visited a number of marginal seat including Gilmore and Capricornia. He told media at a press conference in Rockhampton:

“We’ve got a personal plan which means over 57,000 people here in Michelle’s [Landry] electorate on the Capricorn coast will be paying lower taxes. Lower taxes straight away as a result of the personal tax plan we’ve put out,”.

In the Shadow Treasurer’s address to the National Press Club, he argued Labor was making the big calls and had got them right. He spoke about the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry as well as taxation reform arguing:

“…we didn’t do these things for fun.

We didn’t make these decisions lightly or because we thought they might help us win a 24 hour news cycle. Quite the contrary.

We did these things because we regard them as essential elements of a bold and necessary reform agenda of a Labor Government.

We did them and will implement in office for a higher purpose.”
