On Wednesday, the Member for Cowper, the Hon Luke Hartsuyker MP, announced he would not be standing at the next Federal election.

Mr Hartsuyker has represented the seat of Cowper for 17 years and has served in the Ministry as Assistant Minister for Employment, Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister, and Assistant Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment.

The Prime Minister, the Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, issued a statement thanking Mr Hartsuyker for his service stating:

“I am sure that his efforts as a minister and as a reliable local member will always be remembered, just as his affable presence, calm experience and optimism will be greatly missed”.

Also this week, embattled first term Labor MP and Member for Lindsay, Ms Emma Husar MP announced that she would not be recontesting the next election.

Ms Husar was elected to the marginal seat of Lindsay at the 2016 election. Ms Husar issued a statement regarding her decision to not recontest the seat, having regard to recent allegations from former staff members, saying:

“This stops now. Enough is enough. I’ve spoken with Bill Shorten and let him know that I won’t be recontesting the next election.”

The Government is likely to focus on the circumstances surrounding Ms Husar’s announcement when Parliament resumes next week.
