On Tuesday, Labor Senator for Queensland and Shadow Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Senator Claire Moore announced she would not recontest the next election, having been first elected in 2001.
Senator Moore issued a brief statement including the following comments:
“It has been a real honour and a genuine pleasure to represent the people of Queensland in the Senate,” she said.
“It’s been great to be a Shadow Minister for the Shorten Shadow Ministry.
“I will continue to support the Shorten team and strive for the best possible outcomes for Queensland.”
The Leader of the Opposition, the Hon Bill Shorten MP, thanked Senator Moore for her service, noting:
“Claire has been a champion for regional Queensland, for the rights of women, for the status and pay of carers and a tireless warrior against poverty and disadvantage, here in Australia and around the world.”
