Following last week’s decision from the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) that proposes two new seats (Bean in the ACT and Fraser in Victoria), which clearly favoured Labor, there was a surprise announcement on Friday by the AEC that would significantly change a number of Labor seats in South Australia.

Despite strong speculation that the seats of Mayo, Sturt or Adelaide were the seats that would be presented for abolishment, it was in fact Port Adelaide, the seat held by Labor’s Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy, the Hon Mark Butler MP.

There is a further period of engagement on the proposed redistributions recently announced by the AEC, with final decisions likely announced by mid-2018.
